Travel Destination Review: Port Grimaud

Travel Destination Review: Port Grimaud

People can consider Port Grimaud as an annexed part of the village by the name of Grimaud. This is located in the southwest of Saint Tropez. People from Frejus can reach Port Grimaud in just half an hour.

It’s a great choice for acquiring property especially if you are a boat owner as many of the properties come with their own mooring which are very hard to find in the South of France.

The proximity to Saint-Tropez is a huge benefit of course and very much part of the allure as it is visible across the gulfe of Saint tropez and only a few minutes away by boat.

Here are some facts, information and reasons why this is a good place to buy:

Properties:

The entire seafront village was designed in the 1960’s by an architect named François Spoerry, thus it is a rather modern town, yet it was constructed in a Venetian style.

The majority of the real estate there comes with its own berth for docking the owner’s huge sailing yachts and assorted boats in the bay of Saint Tropez. The sale of the homes was so successful that there is also a Port Grimaud 2 as well as 3!

Some property facts:

Most of the homes are 3 stories high “fishermans cottages”.
Each house is unique in design as well as color.
Most have boat moorings.
All the homes are in elegantly sophisticated old Provençal style.
Most of the houses have huge balconies from which to watch the other residents, as well as the boats that go by. This is part of the charm, you see; never having to drive, just take a boat instead!

Bars and Restaurants:

Part of the success of this development is that cafes, bars, restaurants and shops are always a few minutes walk, and there are also 2 very fine sandy beaches that you can walk to as well. It is actually a private lagoon pleasure city.

If you wish to drink and eat, those are easily available to the public and you will see rows of very tempting cafés, restaurants and brasseries.

Some of the better-known restaurants are La Boheme run by a lovely English family and Monroes again run by an English family, both of excellent value.

You may also love La Table du Mareyeur, also run by an Englishman, in the Place des Artisans.

Principal or Second Residence?

Property owners, such as Joan Collins, are all wealthy in their own right, thus Grimaud is actually more of a resort village rather than one where one lives year around, and of course it is filled during the summer.

Access to the homes is basically only done by boat, thus there are boat tours available of Port Grimaud.

Hotels and Places to Stay:

One of the fine places to stay in Port Grimaud is the Relais Du Silence Suffren Hotel. From there you will be able to take a water taxi to the beach, as you are considered a resident when you stay at the Relais.

There are also boats available to take you to St. Tropez if you so desire. A market is held twice a week, so that you can stock up on all manner of food, including bread, vegetables, and meat, to make your stay there as pleasant as possible.

Things To Do:

In this Venice of France, of course there is a fantastic yacht club. It is called Yacht Club International de Port Grimaud, and once you visit it; you’ll understand the “International” portion in its name, as so many languages are spoken there!

There is never a question as to what to do, as you can: golf, tennis, go shopping, sightseeing, restaurants, sailing, boating, waterskiing, parasailing, jet skiing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, biking, hiking, fishing, fitness center/gym, cinemas/movie theaters, live theatre, museums, miniature golf, horseback riding as well as take cooking courses from well-renowned chefs!

Conclusion:

If you are a boat owner or just love boats and yachting then Port Grimaud is probably one of the best places to buy a second home in the whole of the Med.
